The Vatican announced that a World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation will now be celebrated annually on September 1, in congruence with the Orthodox Church’s day for the protection of the environment. This is another action taken by the Pope to bring ecological issues to the center of the global stage in the wake of his recent encyclical.
