Speaking to an audience of young people in August 2013, Pope Francis said, “This is the challenge… have courage. Go forward. Make noise.” In the spirit of the Holy Father’s words, Catholic Colleges and Universities around the world are demonstrating the courage to make noise on behalf of the common good. At its 2015 Annual Meeting a few weeks ago, the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities celebrated this vision and courage, which are the hallmarks of Catholic Higher Education (CHE).
Over the next few weeks, we will release short stories about the courageous voices of our member colleges and universities. Stay tuned to hear about how students, faculty, and staff are responding to Pope Francis’s call to social justice and a culture of encounter. In the meantime, check out our new video, which we debuted at our Annual Meeting as a way of explaining what we do in CHE.
If you are still curious about how Catholic colleges and universities are promoting social justice on campus, check out ACCU’s inventory of promising practices, which includes many examples of our members engaging with Catholic Social Teaching.
